Hot Eyeliner Trends

We’ve all heard of the cat eye, but have you ever heard of the fox eye or reverse cat eye? These are hot eyeliner trends that have been going viral on social media. These styles make your eyes look very sultry and elongated. They can also be worn in a more natural way for daytime.

However, these styles are not new all over the world. In fact, they’ve been worn for centuries in the Middle East and are perfect for that snatched MENA eye shape.

Ancient MENA Makeup

While this may be a new trend for some, in the Middle East this style of eyeliner has been worn on both men and women since ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt. It wasn’t only worn for cosmetic purposes, but also for its practicality. They would place dark powder around the eyes, similar to how these trendy eyeliner looks are worn today, to help protect their eyes from the blazing desert sun. This look emphasizes the large eyes of the MENA people and has become a distinct part of middle eastern style makeup and culture.

Some Holy Grails

To achieve this eyeliner look it is important to use the right products that won’t smudge or smear. The products you’ll need for this look are a long lasting eyeliner, good quality eyeshadows, an eyeshadow primer, and some good makeup brushes. Here are some of our recommendations:

You don’t need all of these products, but this is a good list of recommendations for makeup products that won’t fail you while conquering this look.

Tips to Achieve It & Make It Last

The first step is to prime your eyes very well before doing any eye look to ensure that it lasts for as long as possible. Place the primer on the top and bottom lash line as well as in the inner and outer corner of your eyes. Basically wherever any eyeshadow and eyeliner will be going. For this look you can use liquid, gel, pencil, or even just eyeshadow as liner, depending on your preferences.

The next step is to put on the eyeliner in either the fox eye style or the reverse cat eye style. For a more natural look, use brown colored products instead of black. Also, place a nude eyeliner in the waterline to brighten the eyes and make them look bigger. However, if you’re going for a smokey look then place black eyeliner on the waterline instead. To add more definition and dimension to the eyes, lightly place some brown eyeshadow or bronzer to the crease and buff it in well.

Also, you can keep the look simple and matte or you can add some slight shimmer to the center of the lid to enhance the eye look. To make the look stand out even more, use fun colored liners and glitters for a more avant garde look and then pop on some false lashes.

Lastly, finish it off with a trusty setting spray to set the makeup and keep it in place all day. Overall, have fun with it and make sure to take lots of pics. If you happen to post it, don’t forget to tag @utmsofficial on Insta so we can see your take on this trend!
