TIPS ON REDUCING YOUR CAFFEINE INTAKE

We all love our morning coffee and our daily trips to our nearest coffee shop (and would probably go as far to say it’s self care). Caffeine does have some benefits like decreasing fatigue or increasing mental and physical alertness. In moderation it’s fine; however, too much caffeine isn’t all that great for you and can cause issues like insomnia, high blood pressure, bowel problems, anxiety, and rapid heart rate. It is also highly addictive and can cause some dependency on it to function. You don’t have to completely give up your venti iced coffee with an extra shot of espresso, but these are good alternatives if you’ve been looking to cut back on caffeine a bit.

Low-to-No Caffeine Beverages

  • ●  Tea: this is a good alternative because it has significantly less caffeine than coffee. There are several types of teas with varying caffeine levels. Herbal teas like peppermint, ginger, or chamomile have no caffeine at all. Here is a link to a tea caffeine comparison chart. 

    Kombucha: this a type of tea that has been fermented and contains lots of good bacteria. It can give a great boost of energy due to its release of iron and B vitamins. It contains a very small amount of caffeine with an average of about 15 mg per drink. Here is a link for info on the health benefits of kombucha.

    ● Four Sigmatic: this is a mushroom-based beverage that is considered a coffee replacement. Their instant coffees and lattes are about 50 mg of caffeine which is half the amount of regular coffee. They also have some lattes, elixirs, and blends that contain zero caffeine.     ●  MUD/WTR: this is a coffee replacement that is a blend of masala chai, cacao, and adaptogenic mushrooms. This beverage contains 1/7 the amount of caffeine that a classic cup of coffee has. Here is a link to the MUD/WTR website for more info.
